Well after some amazing hot weather we have had some wet and windy weather recently here at The Gamekeeper’s Cottage in North Devon. So it got me thinking about suggestions of what to do on a wet day.
Of course you may just want to curl up in front of the log burner and read a book or play a game in the cosy living room but you may also want to go exploring around the area of North Devon.
Here are my top 5 suggestions:
- a leisurely lunch at one of the wonderful restaurants we have around North Devon. We highly recommend The Farmers Arms at Woolsery, The Masons Arms at Knowlestone, Hotel Endsleigh in the heart of Dartmoor or Gidleigh Park with views out across Dartmoor.
- A visit to a National Trust property, Castle Drogo and Cotehele are both great places to visit on a wet day. There is also Arlington Court which is a beautiful regency house with a carriage museum.
- The cinema in Okehampton is great, it is a small cinema with comfy leather chairs to relax in while watching a film. They also live stream concerts, ballets and operas and you can enjoy a glass of wine while watching the film. Why not go for a meal at the 2 rivers restaurant before or after the film?
- A trip to Exeter for some retail therapy and a visit to the stunning cathedral.
- A visit to the Eden Project is a must. An hour and a 20 minute journey and you arrive in the old quarry. As you park your car you can see the amazing biospheres where you are transported to tropical climates. Perfect on a wet day.
